ASEAN-China Environmental Cooperation Week 2019 Held in Beijing

ASEAN-China Environmental Cooperation Week 2019 was held by FECO/CAEC of MEE with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and ASEAN Secretariat on March 25-28, 2019 in Beijing. The five-day event consisted of five parts, including ASEAN-China National Focal Point Meeting on Environmental Cooperation, Seminar on ASEAN-China Cooperation for Eco-Friendly Cities, Task Force Meeting and Workshop on Operation and Technical Issues of China-ASEAN Environmental Information Sharing Platform (EISP), and China-ASEAN Seminar on Climate Change Policies and Actions.

About 150 representatives from home and abroad attended the event, including representatives from Department of International Cooperation, Department of Ecology, Department of Climate Change, Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center, and Information Center of MEE, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other related institutions, Shenzhen, Guangxi, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Hainan, Hubei and other provinces in China, as well as representatives from ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN member countries, including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and international organizations, including UNEP, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), WWF and Energy Foundation.

Zhang Jieqing, Deputy Director of the Department if International Cooperation of MEE attended and addressed the opening ceremony, followed by Tu Ruihe, Chief Representative of UNEP in China, and Eddy Mazuaansah Bin Mohd Ali Murad, Deputy Director General of the Department of Energy, Science and Technology, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia, and representative of the chair of ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting on Environment. Distinguished guests from home and abroad participated in the series of events, including Xiao Xuezhi, Deputy Director of FECO; Liu Chunlong, Deputy Party Secretary of FECO; Li Qingrui, Executive Vice-President of China Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association; Ngo Tuan Dung, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Department of Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Khin Cho Cho Shein, Deputy Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Myanmar’s Ministry of Transport; Chuop Paris, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment of Myanmar; and Chea Nara, Chief Delegate of Working Group of Environmentally Sustainable Cities of ASEAN.

Under the guidance of ASEAN-China Environmental Cooperation Strategy (2016-2020) and ASEAN-China Environmental Cooperation Action Plan (2016-2020), both sides have made positive progress. China and ASEAN successfully held China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Forum, launched China-ASEAN Partnership for Eco-Friendly Urban Development, developed China-ASEAN Environmental Information Sharing Platform, released China-ASEAN Environmental Outlook 1, and meanwhile made positive cooperation progress in biodiversity conservation, environmental industry and technology exchange and the Silk Road Green Envoys Program.
