From May 19 to 21, 2026 local time, the 1st International Dialogue on Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) was held in Brasília, Brazil. Hosted by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA) of Brazil, the meeting was attended by a delegation led by Li Xia, Deputy Director-General, the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China (FECO), who also delivered remarks.

Li Xia shared China’s extensive practices and positive progress in advancing comprehensive green transformation, focusing on topics such as natural capital enhancement and investment and financing, as well as institutional design for realizing the value of ecological products. She noted that China attaches great importance to ecological civilization, green and low-carbon development, and the comprehensive advancement of the Beautiful China initiative. She also stated that FECO stands ready to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with governments, international organizations and relevant partners, jointly promote pragmatic cooperation in the fields of ecological and environmental protection, addressing climate change, and sustainable development, and contribute to global ecological and environmental governance.
More than 100 representatives from government agencies, financial institutions, international organizations and research institutes from 20 countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Chile, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Indonesia, attended the meeting. Participants exchanged views and held discussions on key issues including the design of payment for ecosystem services mechanisms, financing architecture and the continuation of global cooperation.
